Central Community Church is one of the largest churches on Wichita's west side. Its main facility is nearly 200,000 square feet of floor space supporting worship, ministry space, preschool, a community activity center, commercial kitchen, and offices for the staff. By 2014, they had outgrown their existing Ubiquiti UniFi system and were looking at options to take their wireless network to the next level.
In 2017, the church will be hosting their denomination's general conference, expecting approximately 1500-2000 delegates who will be voting on church business via a mobile application. With this in mind, Free Range came up with a high-density wireless network design that would support connectivity for every person in the sanctuary as well as throughout the facility.
The existing network infrastructure was not well-suited to supporting this kind of load, so the design included not only wireless access, but the underlying ethernet connectivity, network segmentation, and routing to the Internet.
Once the project was approved, we provided a turnkey installation, from installation of the access points and switches to providing new copper and fiber optic wiring to connect it all together into one high-performance network with a 20-gigabit backbone. Installation also included re-architecting the network to provide a secure and isolated guest network, separate broadcast domains for the staff wireless access, staff computers, and audiovisual equipment, as well as providing a managed network for outside event productions to use when they are in the facility, in order to keep the crowded RF spectrum in the sanctuary clear so that event guests can still share their experiences of the event on social media.
